Projects
Hardware and firmware I've built, newest first. Research work up top; workshop projects below.
Research & professional
Work done with Instituto de Telecomunicações and Unbabel Labs — biosignal acquisition hardware, wearables and assistive interfaces.
AAC input devices for ALS
ongoingA family of prototypes — a brow headband, EOG glasses, and a finger-click keyboard — giving people with ALS a way to type or trigger actions when speech and hand control are gone.
A forearm-worn device that reads EMG and motion, classifies it on-device, and streams the result to a phone. Many iterations, three radios, one very patient enclosure design.
ECG phone case
shippedA smartphone case that measures a single-lead ECG through printed electrodes, built to test whether everyday objects can do opportunistic heart-health sensing.
Workshop
Things I build for myself, the fencing club and the house. Same engineering, lower stakes, usually more fun.
Cloud umbrella holder
shippedA printed cloud that clips over a door frame so the umbrella hangs beneath it like rain. No fixings, no holes, one joke.
ESPHome desk control board
ongoingA six-key panel with a PIR sensor, buzzer and OLED, mounted under the desk. Custom PCB, printed keycaps, wired into Home Assistant.
A bench box for the armory — plug in a blade or a body wire, get a red or a green light. Built so a fault takes seconds to find instead of a whole evening.
NFC music tags
ongoingLaser-engraved wooden tags with an NFC sticker on the back. Tap one on the reader and that record plays — a physical shortcut to a streaming library.
Um Botão…
shippedOne button in a laser-cut box. The name is the whole specification.
A forearm wearable wired to an épée that tells a fencer when they're gripping too hard during a hit — where biosignals meet my other sport.
