Club test box for épées and body wires

A bench box for the armory — plug in a blade or a body wire, get a red or a green light. Built so a fault takes seconds to find instead of a whole evening.

Most of running a club armory is not repair, it’s triage. A fencer comes off the piste with a weapon that isn’t registering and the useful question is narrow: is it the blade, the body wire, or the socket? Answering it by substitution means swapping parts until the fault moves, which is slow and ties up working kit.

A grey 3D-printed box with a fencer engraved on the top face, a red and a green indicator, and three sockets along the front.
Plug in, read the light. The engraved fencer is on the lid because a tool that lives in a kit bag should be identifiable at a glance.

So this sits on the bench instead. Plug the item in, read the indicator, move on. It’s deliberately dumber than a scoring box: it answers one question quickly rather than several slowly.

Where it’s at

In use at the club. The enclosure is printed and the fencer on the lid is engraved rather than painted, so it survives being carried around in a bag of tools.
